Drawing on expertise from across the African continent this collection reflects the realities for women working and making theatre: how Egyptian director Dalia Basiouny has documented the "Tahrir Stories" of the Egyptian Revolution; how in Uganda women have used various theatrical devices, such as oral poetry, to seek common ground in a rural-urban inter-generational theatre . Generating a new understanding of the past—as well as a vision for the future—this path-breaking volume contains essays written by playwrights, scholars, and critics that analyze African American theatre as it is practiced as they acknowledge that Black experience is not monolithic, these contributors argue provocatively and persuasively for a Black consciousness .

He has written widely on theatre, literature, music, political cartoons, film, architecture, and the state. Among his authored or edited books are Arrest the Music! Fela and His Rebel Art and Politics and Scars of Conquest/Masks of Resistance: The Invention of Cultural Identities in African, African American and Caribbean Drama. Ghana’s theatre has gone through lots of metamorphosis and has taken over its current feature. The more the theatre is exposed to transformation, the better and sustainable it becomes. Theatre in Ghana is seen as a doyenne in the African continent because people from other neighboring countries have come to learn from the theatre’s development.
