This Boy's Faith Hamilton CainBooks like "This Boy's Faith" are pretty much the reason I felt compelled to publish my memoir. It's about a boy who grew up Baptist, seemed fine with it at the time, until he became an adult/5.

Everything in this book ties together: a child fears many-headed Biblical monsters and the adult sees the monstrosity of the falling Twin Towers. The child thinks salvation happens through prayer; the adult learns a complex new faith.

The child imbibes and then discards /5(5). "Honest, wise and just plain beautifully written, like all great memoirs This Boy's Faith transcends a deeply personal subject to tell a larger story--about how blessings can become curses, curses blessings, about how faith dies hard and the desire for salvation, in its various and surprising forms, is endlessly at hand."–Michael Knight /5(5).

Set in the South in the mid-to-late s, these books for 10 to year-old girls tell the story of the life and spiritual commitment of Elsie Dinsmore, a charming young heroine. Elsie’s Christian faith, hope and purity guide her as she grows from childhood to.

There are some great, classic books out there, but lately I have been searching for some good Christian chapter books with a message of faith. We know a few, and I reviewed one of them below, but I asked some friends (and some of their kids) to tell me their favorites and why they liked them.

THIS BOY'S FAITH NOTES FROM A SOUTHERN BAPTIST UPBRINGING The book proves to be a page-turner, but Cain disappoints in two key ways.

First, his vignettes are meant to pique the reader’s interest in Southern Baptist culture, but little of what is shared is particularly unique.

Second, where the author does introduce meaty subject matter. Much of the narrative on queer Asian and Muslim identity over the past few years has been hijacked by the Birmingham schools race row, reports of people being forced into heterosexual marriages or contending the burden of homophobia and Islamophobia in their respective communities.

But queer Muslim identity doesn’t have to be centred on trauma. A Book List for Christian Boys. Our boys have never been labeled as ‘book worms' or ‘avid readers', so I wanted to be sure that what I provided for them in the way of books were carefully selected for them, and not just thoughtless thrown in from of them.
